Gwyneth’s story: “I wouldn’t be anywhere else”
Rest home resident, Gwyneth, lived in the Howick area for many years with her husband. After he died, she moved to Stevenson Village and then to HBH’s rest home four years ago.
Four mornings a week Gwyneth and Jack (her neighbour at the rest home), go down to the in-house gym and run through an exercise regime. “We have some lovely new equipment,” says Gwyneth. “I do strength exercises and cardio. Jack and I always have a laugh, which makes the exercising part easy!”
As well as the gym, Gwyneth gets in regular exercise playing indoor bowls and mini golf at the rest home. “It keeps me moving but it’s as much about being with friends,” she says. “I also like quiet time in my room. My grandchildren spoil me by sending lots of books and I do the crossword most days.”
“I’ve got good friends here and the staff are lovely, lovely people. Jack and I have a good natter most days and we visit friends who have now moved to the hospital. The week flies by as there is something on every day. I wouldn’t be anywhere else – everyone is so good to me at HBH. It is my home.”
