Stevenson Village is an established 36 unit social (low cost) retirement village, just a few minutes’ walk away from HBH Senior Living. Built in 1974 by the local RSA and Sir William and Lady Stevenson, it offers comfortable, independent, one-bedroom and bedsit units, as well as a central community hub where residents can gather, socialise and enjoy a range of activities.

Care philosophy
To give low-income older people the opportunity to maintain independence and live with dignity and safety in an affordable home, with companionship, activities and extra support available if needed.
Living space
Stevenson Village comprises 36 one-bedroom and bedsit units. Units are currently being renovated when they become vacant to create modern, comfortable living environments for residents.
Level of care
Secure, private and affordable independent living for older people. If a higher level of care is needed, residents have priority access to beds at HBH Senior Living’s rest home or hospital nearby (needs assessment and funding criteria apply).
Community
Stevenson Village is just a two-minute drive from Howick Village and around five minutes’ walk to HBH Senior Living in Union Road.
A minibus is available to take residents shopping and on outings. A community hub, kitchen and library are available onsite, as well as a range of regular social functions and activities (coordinated by HBH’s Social Coordinator) HBH Senior Living’s much-loved Day Programme is also available to Stevenson Village residents (DHB funding criteria apply).
Wellbeing
Residents are welcome to join our twice-weekly church services nearby at HBH Senior Living. A registered nurse is available by phone for advice 24/7.

Cost
Units are rented. Rent includes water and tenants are responsible for their own power, insurance, phone, internet, Sky TV and all other personal costs.
People on the social housing register are eligible to apply, and pay rent according to income. For those not eligible to be on the social housing register, rent is set at around 80% of market rent for a similar property in the Howick area as per the Tenancy Services website.
